From textile residue to high-value material
The consortium has worked to establish an efficient model for collecting, tracing and reintegrating textile residues into demanding protective applications. The objective is to reduce waste without losing the safety, quality and performance required by the PPE market.
Main achievements
- More than 60 metric tons of textile residues from different production stages have been collected with quality and traceability controls.
- More than 30 preliminary yarn and fabric trials have helped validate compositions and technical performance.
- Five fabrics containing recycled material have been developed for multi-risk and foundry applications, with additional solutions still under study.
- More than 150 professionals have received training to improve material recovery and process efficiency.
Challenges and next steps
Post-consumer collection, multi-component materials and regulatory interpretation remain complex. Traceability continues to be critical for maintaining compliance with PPE requirements.
The final project stage will focus on validating new recycled yarns and fabrics, scaling prototype production, expanding post-consumer collection and assessing environmental and socio-economic impact.
