NFPA 2113-2025 provides a workplace framework for selecting, using, caring for and maintaining flame-resistant garments for short-duration thermal exposures from fire.

Hazard assessment

Assesses the fuel or process, fire exposure, affected body regions and escape conditions.

Quantified exposure: duration in s and thermal intensity in kW/m².

Garment and layer selection

Assesses body coverage, fit, compatible layers and closures.

Selection uses NFPA 2112 product certification and the task’s hazard assessment.

Care records

Documents garment inspection, cleaning, contamination and repairs under the manufacturer’s care instructions.
