EN ISO 9185

Resistance to large molten-metal splashes

Requirements & test methods

ISO 9185 assesses heat penetration through protective-clothing materials during controlled pours of molten metal.

Controlled molten-metal pour

Pours a measured mass of molten metal over the specimen at a defined temperature, height and angle.

Mass in g for aluminum, cryolite, copper, iron or mild steel.

Sensor-film assessment

Checks the PVC film beneath the specimen for damage after each pour. ISO 9185:2025 includes iterative and specified-performance-level testing.

Poured mass and corresponding film damage.

ISO 11612

Classifies aluminum splashes as code D and iron splashes as code E under ISO 11612:2015.

Minimum metal mass by level.
