EN ISO 11612

Protective clothing for limited flame spread, convective, radiant and contact heat, and molten-metal splashes.

Six protection codes

AISO 15025

Limited flame spread

Required base protection against ignition and flame spread.

BISO 9151

Convective heat

Measures heat transferred through the material during flame exposure.

CISO 6942

Radiant heat

Measures insulation against a defined source of radiant thermal energy.

DISO 9185

Molten aluminium

Evaluates material response to splashes of molten aluminium.

EISO 9185

Molten iron

Evaluates material response to splashes of molten iron.

FISO 12127-1

Contact heat

Measures the time taken for contact heat to pass through the material.

Requirements & test methods

Heat & flame performance

ISO 17493

Exposes materials to hot air for 5 min at 180 °C, with an optional test at 260 °C.

No ignition or melting. Shrinkage ≤ 5% at 180 °C and ≤ 10% at 260 °C.

ISO 15025

Tests surface ignition (A1) and additional lower-edge ignition (A2).

Afterflame ≤ 2 s and afterglow ≤ 2 s. No flaming or molten debris; flame spread, holes and seam integrity are also assessed.

ISO 9151

Measures the time to a 24 °C calorimeter rise at a flame heat flux of 80 kW/m².

Convective heat: code B.

Convective heat levels
CodeHTI24 (s)
B14 ≤ HTI24 < 10
B210 ≤ HTI24 < 20
B3HTI24 ≥ 20

ISO 6942

Measures the time to a 24 °C calorimeter rise at a radiant heat flux of 20 kW/m².

Radiant heat: code C.

Radiant heat levels
CodeRHTI24 (s)
C17 ≤ RHTI24 < 20
C220 ≤ RHTI24 < 50
C350 ≤ RHTI24 < 95
C4RHTI24 ≥ 95

ISO 9185

Pours molten aluminum or iron onto the material or assembly and checks damage to the PVC sensor film beneath it.

Molten aluminum: code D. Molten iron: code E.

Molten-metal performance levels
LevelAluminum: code D (g)Iron: code E (g)
1100 ≤ mass < 20060 ≤ mass < 120
2200 ≤ mass < 350120 ≤ mass < 200
3mass ≥ 350mass ≥ 200

ISO 12127-1

Measures the time to a 10 °C calorimeter rise in contact with a cylinder at 250 °C.

Contact heat: code F.

Contact heat levels
CodeThreshold time (s)
F15 ≤ time < 10
F210 ≤ time < 15
F3time ≥ 15

Fabric strength & durability

ISO 5077

Measures length and width change after washing and drying.

Dimensional change within ±3% for woven materials and ±5% for knitted materials.

ISO 13934-1

Measures tensile strength of woven outer materials in both directions using the strip test.

Tensile strength ≥ 300 N.

ISO 13937-2

Measures tear force of woven outer materials in both directions using a trouser-shaped specimen.

Tear force ≥ 10 N.

ISO 13938-1 / ISO 13938-2

Measures bursting pressure of knitted outer materials and structural seams.

Bursting strength ≥ 100 kPa at 50 cm², or ≥ 200 kPa at 7.3 cm².

ISO 13935-2

Measures rupture force of structural seams in woven outer materials.

Seam strength ≥ 225 N.
