Protective clothing for use in welding and related processes
ISO 11611 specifies protective-clothing requirements for welding and related processes, including small molten-metal splashes, brief flame contact and welding radiation.
Tests surface ignition (A1) and additional edge ignition (A2) on materials and structural seams after cleaning.
Afterflame ≤ 2 s and afterglow ≤ 2 s. No flaming or molten debris; the surface test also checks holes and flame reaching specimen edges.
Counts molten-metal drops until a 40 K sensor rise. Radiant heat is tested at 20 kW/m²; RHTI24 is the time to a 24 °C sensor rise.
Class 1 or Class 2, with resistance to ignition during the splash test.

Measures vertical electrical resistance through the material assembly and seams at 100 ± 5 V.
Resistance > 10⁵ Ω.
Measures tensile and tear strength of woven outer material in both directions.
Tensile strength ≥ 400 N. Tear force ≥ 15 N for Class 1 and ≥ 20 N for Class 2.
Measures rupture force of structural seams in woven outer materials.
Seam strength ≥ 225 N.
Measures bursting pressure of knitted outer materials and structural seams.
Bursting strength ≥ 100 kPa at 50 cm², or ≥ 200 kPa at 7.3 cm².
Measures length and width change after five cleaning cycles.
Dimensional change within ±3% for woven materials and ±5% for knitted materials.
