Flame-resistant and arc-rated protective clothing

Requirements & test methods

ASTM F1506-25 defines performance, construction and labeling requirements for flame-resistant and arc-rated clothing worn by workers exposed to electric arcs and related thermal hazards.

ASTM F1959/F1959M

Measures the arc rating of the fabric or material system as ATPV or EBT.

Arc rating in cal/cm², selected for the workplace exposure.

Flame resistance

Tests vertical-flame behavior before cleaning and after 25 cleaning cycles.

Char length (mm), afterflame (s), melting and dripping:

Strength and stability

Measures woven breaking and tear strength, knitted bursting pressure and dimensional change.

Breaking and tear force: N. Bursting pressure: kPa. Dimensional change: %.

Garment construction

Covers closures, seams, body coverage and product information.

Garment labeling includes the arc rating and traceable product identification.
